The law which governs automobile accidents in Florida is called the “No Fault” law. Basically what this means is that no matter who is at fault in the accident, your own insurance company pays a portion of your medical bills and your lost wages. This is commonly called P.I.P. (Personal Injury Protection) and generally covers 80% of medical bills and 60% of lost wages. Your own company will cover these expenses and they must be paid within thirty days from the date your insurance company was notified of the expense. The “at fault” party’s insurance company will be responsible for any related out-of-pocket expenses through the bodily injury portion of the “at fault” party’s policy. It is important to notify all of the insurance companies concerned in the accident about your injuries, medical bills and lost wages so that proper procedures and reserves may be discussed as to your injuries and so your claim can move forward without necessary delay.
