How to Choose a Lawyer

You want to hire the right lawyer for the right price. How do you choose the right lawyer for you? Here’s some guidance from Mario, Gunde, Peters, Rhoden and Kelley.

A Word About Fees

“How much is it going to cost?” Fees are something to talk about only after you’ve discussed your case. No good attorney can quote a fee without knowing what your case is all about. Beware of “flat fees.” They have a way of ballooning after you’ve been hooked. There is no flat fee for most divorces, DUI’s, and criminal cases.

A fair fee is tied to the time it takes to resolve your problem. The less you pay, the less time a lawyer can give to your case. We base fees on the estimated time needed to handle it correctly.

We offer Pay-as-you-go plans, MasterCard, Discover and Visa. We put fee agreements in writing. No surprises, no misunderstandings.

Experience Counts

There’s a fear in hiring a lawyer. You’re stepping into the unknown. Our firm has over 95 years of combined experience in criminal, family, and civil trial practice. We’re known as being fair, reasonable, tough and professional. Ask around about us.

Divorce & Family Law

How do we handle a divorce case? We put ourselves in your shoes. You get straight talk, not “fee talk” designed to tell you what you want to hear. And, we won’t make mountains out of molehills just to enlarge our fee. We’ll negotiate or fight it out in court – whatever it takes to do the job. And, while we can talk the dollars and cents of divorce, we also understand the fear, hope, anxiety, and anger tied to alimony, child sharing, support, and property disputes.

We handle all family law related matters. Come to us and you’ll get what you need: reassurance and real help.

Criminal Law

Every attorney in our firm has had plenty of experience handling criminal cases. But we know that experience is no good to our clients unless we put it to work for them. We promise that if we you’re your case, we’ll work it. Knowing the system is one thing, but that doesn’t do you any good if we don’t put our shoulders to the wheel.

Our commitment is to providing you with the best defense possible. We start with straight talk about the law, your chances in court and whether or not you’re facing jail. Next, we talk to witnesses, prosecutor, police — anyone who impacts your case. If expert witnesses are needed, we know the best ones to call. And we’ll keep you in the loop so you’ll know exactly what’s going on with your case.

We handle everything from serious crimes to misdemeanors and juvenile matters.

Drunk Driving

The worst thing to do in a DUI case is to rush in and plead guilty, or go to court with an attorney who doesn’t really handle DUI cases. We’ve been aggressively defending DUI cases for over 30 years, and have handled hundreds of them. Along the way we’ve helped a lot of people who thought they were beyond help.

Even if you think your case is a lost cause, we can often make a bad case better. But you must act almost immediately after your arrest, or you lose an important chance to challenge your arrest and any breath test or refusal. Whether you’re facing your second or third DUI, a probation violation, or driving while license suspended, chances are we have handled cases like yours before.

Personal Injury

A serious injury or wrongful death claim is a one-time thing. Settle or go to trial, what you get is all you’re ever going to get. No matter the pain and suffering.

Personal injury cases need to be moved along without abandoning attention to detail. The passage of time can be frustrating but – especially when the injuries are significant – good things usually don’t happen overnight. If you become a client of ours, we’ll work to resolve your case as soon as reasonably possible without sacrificing your best interests.

We like clients who want to feel like part of the team. That’s because we believe that the outcome of a case is better when there’s good attorney-client teamwork.

Our clients meet or speak with their attorney as much as necessary. Big or small, your case will get the time and effort it needs and we’ll keep you abreast of what we’re doing. Ultimately, if you aren’t offered the money you deserve, we won’t be afraid to take your case to trail.

No Recovery … No Fee*

Our Philosophy

“We are not in the practice of law solely to make money. We share a commitment to helping others and believe that by doing our best for each client we help elevate our profession.”
