A dissolution of marriage is not intended to produce a clear “winner”. When a husband and wife decide to part, neither is going to get exactly what they want, especially if the case must be tried before a judge. If you retain an attorney to “take your spouse to the cleaners” or to “rough them up” in court, several things can happen, usually all bad. First, you will spend more money than necessary. Second, you will no doubt be disappointed in the outcome. Third, if a judge believes you and your attorney are abusing the process, the judgment will most likely reflect that and you can end up paying some of your spouse’s attorney fees and costs; not to mention the possibility of having major issues in the case decided against you.
